Men's Team Tennis 2011 Results

On Friday, 18th February the Black and Green Teams met in the playoff to determine the overall winner of the team tennis. When they met earlier in the round robin stages the Greens comprehensively beat the Blacks by 127 games to 104 games and on points by 30 to 17. However, Friday’s encounter was much closer and only 3 games and 2 points separated the teams. The result was that the Green Team won by 117 games and 25 points to the Black Team’s 114 games and 23 points.

The prizes consisted of K Swiss tennis shoes, tennis tops and shorts and sweatshirts all provided by Cormac Dunne.

Special prizes were given to Martin Mahon for subbing in for Michael Sibert and to the father and son pairing of Thomas and Cormac Kelly for winning 20 games out of a possible 21 and to Philip Carey and Niall Dalton for winning 1 game thus preventing the Kellys from winning all 21 games.

The Men’s Team Tennis Predictions Competitions on the line winners aka “The Forecast” was again run by Ben Connellan. The cost of entering was €5 and the winner was our Captain Shay Dolan with 5 correct answers.
Winner takes all.

Showbiz

During February, 2 members of the club have been involved in the entertainment business. One for the first time on a TV show called Come Dine With Me and the other, who is a seasoned pro on the stage with a Celtic Rock Musical called Whiskey In The Jar. To find out more please read the 2 posts below....

Come Dine With Me

On Sunday, 13th February TV3 sent a camera crew to Castleknock LTC to film Aidan Creavin playing tennis with friends on the indoor courts to be used as a clip in the Come Dine With Me TV programme. Until Aidan received the phonecall that he had been chosen as a contestant on the show he was unaware that colleagues in work had put his name forward!
The format of the show is that 4 people prepare a meal for the other 3 contestants in their homes and they then vote for who they consider to have prepared the best meal. The filming in the club was to provide background on Aidan as part of the show. Aidan tells me that the projected broadcast date for the show is sometime in May. So keep an eye on the schedules in May and see if you can catch a glimpse of the club. Although TV3 spent 1 to 2 hours in the club this filming will be editeded down to 15-20 seconds on the show. We wish Aidan the best of luck.

Whiskey In The Jar

The World Premiere of the Celtic Rock Musical Whiskey In The Jar takes place in the RED COW Moran Hotel from 14th to 19th March. The book and lyrics are by our own Brian Rogers and the music is by Dave O'Connor.
Brian and Dave, inspired by the lyrics of Whiskey In The Jar have expanded them into a high energy Celtic Rock Musical. Ticket prices start at €20 for the show only, €40 for show plus dinner and €80 for show plus dinner, room and breakfast.

Men's And Ladies Team Tennis 2011

With one week to go in Team Tennis Black would appear to be the colour to be seen in this Spring on a tennis court anyway! Read on....

The Ladies Team Tennis commenced on Thursday, 13th January and is being run by Deirdre Naughton, Grainne Doyle and Sue Spencer. 120 ladies with 6 teams of 10 levels are playing in this event.
Nothing separates the top 3 teams with the Black Team on 75 points and the Blue Team and the Orange Team on 74 points each.
The weather has proved to be a challenge and 4 nights so far have had disrupted play on the outdoor courts due to frost and galeforce winds. 17 matches have had to be re-arranged from last Thursday, 3rd February and Friday, 4th February.
Despite all this, lots of great tennis is being played and the team captains are very enthusiastic in their role of team encouragement and team colours are being worn with pride.

The Men's Team Tennis which commenced on Wednesday, 12th January and is being run by Adrian Brannigan, Peter Furlong and John Kilkenny is suffering from the same weather problems as the Ladies. The Black Team are on 86 points closely followed by the Green Team on 83 points and the Blue Team on 71 points. Currently there is a backlog of 20 matches and depending on the results of those matches the Black Team could find themselves being overhauled. The top 2 teams will playoff on Friday, 18th. February for first and second place.

Marjorie Flood, the Social Secretary has, with the help of her Social Committee organised a joint event on Friday, 18th February with the presentation of prizes to the Ladies Team Tennis winners followed by the presentation of prizes to the Men's Team Tennis winners. Hot food will be served and a live band will play from 10pm on.
