Ladies Winter League 2011 Final

The Ladies 4th team travelled to Greystones last Sunday, 27th March 2011 to play in the Winter League 2011 Final knowing they were up against it playing Clontarf 3. However, they went out with a steely determination to do well, played some great tennis and were very narrowly beaten 2-0. Mary Hughes and Susan Ward went down to the wire in their match and lost in a tie-break in the 3rd set just as Roisin Wallace and Ger Ryan had matchpoint at 5/4 in their 3rd set!

Well done Ladies you did your club proud and, hopefully what is just the first league pennant of 2011 is now hanging proudly behind the bar!!

The team on the day were:
Susan Ward and Mary Hughes, Marj Flood and Rita Hayes and Ger Ryan and Roisin Wallace (Captain).

Throughout the campaign the ladies were very ably assisted by some great subs in their run to the final so a big thank you to Sorcha Raoof, Mairead Corcoran, Sinead Horan, Jill O'Farrell and Marie McGee for their contribution.

Thanks also to those who travelled to Greystones to support the team. Your presence was greatly appreciated.

Ladies Winter League 2011 Semi-Finals

Firstly, congratulations to our 4th Team who won their semi-final in Glenalbyn last Sunday.

Captained by Roisin Wallace the pairings of Mary Hughes and Susan Ward, Roisin Wallace and Mairead Corcoran (subbing in) had finished their matches with the score at one apiece. It now all hinged on the pairing of Rita Hayes and Marj Flood. They had come back from 2–5 down in the 2nd set to win in a tie-break and take their match into a 3rd set. Everyone held their breath in the 3rd set as they once again fought back from 2-5 down to win, clinch the match and earn their team a well-deserved place in the final on next Sunday, 27th March in Greystones.

Well done ladies!

Commiserations to our 1st Team whose great run to the semi-finals came to an end last Sunday in a closely fought contest against Greystones.

Despite the unavailability of their two No 1 players, the team fought valiantly with the pairing of Sarah McIntyre and Vanessa Newman recording a super win 6/1 6/2. Super subs Deirdre Gogan and Bernadette Hearns stepped up to play the No 3 doubles and lost in a tight 2 sets 4/6 3/6.

With the match finely balanced at one all Emma Ryan and Christine Duffy held out to a 3rd set - but it unfortunately got away from them.
Congratulations to the team and all the subs that played with them over the eight weeks.

So near and yet so far...................... but there's always next year!
