Sliabh Foy (Carlingford) Walk

Here are some photos from the Carlingford Walk on Saturday, 23rd June, 2012.

Advance notice for our next walk so you can pencil it in your diary.
We are walking along the canal to Maynooth on Friday, 10th August and getting the train back to Castleknock and returning to the clubhouse to finish off. We will depart CLTC at 6 pm sharp as we need to be coming back on the 10pm train from Maynooth.

We are also planning an overnight in Carlingford for late September or early October so keep an eye on both the notice board and the website.

Glendalough Walk Photos

All 23 intrepid walkers turned up at the club by 8.30 on Sunday and after much negotiation cars set off for Glendalough with most cars at full capacity. Despite dire warnings from the Met Office the skies were blue and the sun shone brightly. Off we set from the visitor centre at 09.40 (we chose there not to avoid the €4 charge but to avoid the crowd that descend later in the day).

The first photo was taken while we still had some breath left before we climbed the 600 steps leading to the summit. Once again, Chris Walsh had it timed to the minute and we arrived back at the visitor centre just over 4 hours after we started (had we not stopped to admire the view, eat sambos and generally waffle we could have done it in less). We did have a downpour during our sambo break at the miners village, but the lovely homemade tart from Ann Shiel offset the misery. In fact the standard of preparation was very impressive - flasks of tea, sit mats to keep posteriors from freezing whilst sitting on rocks and finally the array of walking sticks purchased at knockdown prices in Aldi and Lidl was astounding. It was great to see Eugene and Geraldine O’Brien use the walks as part of their training for walking the Camino at the end of the month!

Next walk will be in mid June so keep an eye on the website for info (Carlingford, or Maynooth via canal are the options at the moment.). And finally, a huge thank you to Chris Walsh without whom these walks would not be possible
