To the delight of the huge home crowd James beat the No.1 seed and 2009 winner who is currently ranked 257th in the world  6-3 6-3.

Men's Class One Summer League 2011 Final Result

History was made on Saturday, 25th June with Castleknock winning the DLTC Summer League Class One event for the first time.

The team on the day was:

Singles
James Magee
Shane la Porte
John Rendina

Doubles
Liam Byrne & Fergus O’Connell
Neil Ryan & Connor Schelling-Tisza

Other members of the 1st Team Squad are Fiachra Lennon, David Spollen, Laurence Doyle and Gavin GIlhawley who missed the final due to holidays.

Subs used were Richard Foley and Laurent la Forge.

It was a team effort and I would like to thank all the players who played their part in this historic event. The results show it was not a close match as Greystones were short one or two of their top players - but you can only beat what’s in front of you on the day.

Liam Byrne and Fergus O’Connell won the first doubles very comfortably 6/0 6/2 followed by Shane la Porte 6/2 6/0 and then John Rendina 6/0 6/2. So, the result was 3-0 for the history books.

I would like also to give a special thanks to James Magee for making the effort to make the long journey back from the ATP Tour in Morocco to play for his club. Thanks to David Spollen who was captain last year and got us out of Class 2 and into Class 1. However, the biggest thanks has to go to John Rendina the captain of the this year’s team  as he is the one who pushed the hardest this year to get the team ready to play in Class 1.

Next year we move into the Premier League and who knows what we might achieve with this squad of players captained by John Rendina.

Ladies Class Three Summer League 2011 Final Result

Our Ladies 2nd Team went down to the wire in their Class 3 Summer League Final against Swords 1st on Saturday, 25th June in their attempt to bring the cup home, but sadly it wasn’t to be!

With the matches poised at 2-all, the last match on court went to a nail-biting tie-break in the 3rd set. Unfortunately, for Castleknock we lost the tie-break and the final. By such tight margins are winners and runners-up defined.

It is a great achievement to get to a final. In this case it took 8 matches to reach it. So, the team are winners in the club’s eyes and have brought another pennant back to be hung with pride.

The team on the day was:

Singles:
Audrey Duffy
Elizabeth Hunt (Capt)
Sorcha Raoof

Doubles:
Susie Kelly & Mary Mulherin
Deirdre Bennett & Lana Rosenberha

And a special thanks to the 3 Subs - Ciara Quinn, Deirdre Gogan and Claudie Fitzgerald who helped the team on the road to the final.

Also, a most sincere thanks to the supporters the team had from the quarterfinals in Templeogue, to the semis at home, and to the finals in Clontarf, Thanks so much, it means a lot!

Ladies Winter League 2011 Final

The Ladies 4th team travelled to Greystones last Sunday, 27th March 2011 to play in the Winter League 2011 Final knowing they were up against it playing Clontarf 3. However, they went out with a steely determination to do well, played some great tennis and were very narrowly beaten 2-0. Mary Hughes and Susan Ward went down to the wire in their match and lost in a tie-break in the 3rd set just as Roisin Wallace and Ger Ryan had matchpoint at 5/4 in their 3rd set!

Well done Ladies you did your club proud and, hopefully what is just the first league pennant of 2011 is now hanging proudly behind the bar!!

The team on the day were:
Susan Ward and Mary Hughes, Marj Flood and Rita Hayes and Ger Ryan and Roisin Wallace (Captain).

Throughout the campaign the ladies were very ably assisted by some great subs in their run to the final so a big thank you to Sorcha Raoof, Mairead Corcoran, Sinead Horan, Jill O'Farrell and Marie McGee for their contribution.

Thanks also to those who travelled to Greystones to support the team. Your presence was greatly appreciated.

Ladies Winter League 2011 Semi-Finals

Firstly, congratulations to our 4th Team who won their semi-final in Glenalbyn last Sunday.

Captained by Roisin Wallace the pairings of Mary Hughes and Susan Ward, Roisin Wallace and Mairead Corcoran (subbing in) had finished their matches with the score at one apiece. It now all hinged on the pairing of Rita Hayes and Marj Flood. They had come back from 2–5 down in the 2nd set to win in a tie-break and take their match into a 3rd set. Everyone held their breath in the 3rd set as they once again fought back from 2-5 down to win, clinch the match and earn their team a well-deserved place in the final on next Sunday, 27th March in Greystones.

Well done ladies!

Commiserations to our 1st Team whose great run to the semi-finals came to an end last Sunday in a closely fought contest against Greystones.

Despite the unavailability of their two No 1 players, the team fought valiantly with the pairing of Sarah McIntyre and Vanessa Newman recording a super win 6/1 6/2. Super subs Deirdre Gogan and Bernadette Hearns stepped up to play the No 3 doubles and lost in a tight 2 sets 4/6 3/6.

With the match finely balanced at one all Emma Ryan and Christine Duffy held out to a 3rd set - but it unfortunately got away from them.
Congratulations to the team and all the subs that played with them over the eight weeks.

So near and yet so far...................... but there's always next year!

Our 1st team have a home match against Greystones 1 and our 4th team have an away to Glenalbyn 4.

If you can, please come out and support your teams in their effort to reach the finals. No doubt some great tennis will be played, and it is very encouraging to have the support of your club behind you.

Congratulations also to our 3rd team, and hard luck in their away quarter-final against Clontarf 2 last Sunday, 6th March, 2011. The match was delicately poised at 1 match all with the deciding match at 1 set all – but unfortunately the 3rd set got away.

NB. REMEMBER YOUR SUPPORT WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED BY OUR TEAMS!
